Dear Meigs Local Parents and Guardians,
Many of you may have seen various news outlets detailing the grocery and food supply shortage across numerous school districts in America. Unfortunately, this problem is also affecting Meigs Local Schools. School districts’ contracted suppliers are struggling to find the products that we need locally, statewide, and nationally. In any given week, we are unable to get 30-40% of our regular grocery order and must then try to find appropriate replacements.
We are fortunate to be a CEP eligible district, which means we can offer free breakfast and lunch to all our students. Meigs Local is working diligently daily to ensure that your child has the mandated nutritional requirements. Your child is still getting the required protein, grain, fruit, vegetable, and dairy requirements every day. However, due to these shortages, we are not always able to give them traditional menus items, what they may want, or what they are used to receiving. Sometimes we are forced to substitute less popular food items.
We appreciate your understanding as we face these challenges. As a district, we also look forward to the time when we can realize some ‘normalcy’ again.
