Facial Coverings Update

September 9, 2021

In Wednesday night’s board of education meeting, it was decided that Meigs Local will be mandating the use of mask and facial coverings in all indoor facilities effective Monday, September 13.  This decision is based on current data of increasing COVID positives and quarantine cases in the district, county, and state, which have rapidly risen since the decision was made in early August.  In accordance with the most current Ohio department of health guidance, the use of mask and facial coverings should greatly reduce most quarantine issues encountered in the school setting.  Masks and facial coverings will continue to be mandated on all school buses as well.  While we know these decisions may not be in agreement by everyone, we believe with the rising numbers in our nation, state, and county, it is the best decision for the safety of our students and staff.  We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.  Thank You

Below you will find a document with guidelines for quarantine after exposure to covid-19 has been determined.  We hope this may help  you understand the decision making process as well as actions taken.

Dear Meigs Local Parents and Community:

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have informed school districts in Ohio that the use of masks and/or facial coverings will be recommended, but not mandated, for the upcoming school year. In accordance with ODH and CDC recommendations, Meigs Local encourages the use of masks or facial coverings and strongly recommends them for all students, staff, and visitors for the 2021-2022 school year in indoor settings.

Meigs Local will respect the right of the parent/guardian to make a choice of using masks/facial coverings for their child based upon the current ODH and CDC recommendations. The board reserves the right to mandate a district wide masking policy at any time based upon state and local COVID data or any state and federal mandate. Under current ODH guidelines, parents need to recognize that quarantine protocols are reduced with vaccination eligibility and use of masks/facial coverings.

Below you will find a document with guidelines for quarantine after exposure to covid-19 has been determined.  We hope this may help  you understand the decision making process as well as actions taken.

Meigs Local will require that any students, staff, or coach who utilizes school transportation wear a mask at all times in accordance with current law. Additionally, the district will be asking students, staff, and parents to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • If you are showing any signs or symptoms of COVID or the flu, please stay home until you are symptom free for 24 hours.
  • Please do a wellness check before coming to school or a school-related event. If you have a temperature above 100.4 degrees, you should refrain from coming to school until you are symptom free for 24 hours
  • Please continue to practice good hygiene (wash hands, cover your mouth if you sneeze or cough, refrain from touching your nose and mouth).
  • Please be respectful and supportive of those wearing masks in our buildings and on our grounds.
  • Cleaning protocols will continue to be stressed at all levels and functions in the district.

Meigs Local would also like to inform all parents that we will not be offering the 100% remote education platform like we had last school year. Meigs Local will be holding in-person classes five days per week for all students during the 2021-2022 school year. If you have any questions or concerns in regard to the district update, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (740) 992-2153. Please visit our website at www.meigslocal.org for additional information.

Respectfully,
